Zach King Instagram Video analysis

Zach King is an American public figure who has been producing optical illusions and vines on social media for quite some time. The way his vines are carried out make them seem as if they are finished by magic. Most are roughly under twenty seconds long.

I chose to analyse Zach King's newest sponsored vine. The full clip was eighteen seconds long which was longer than the majority of vines he produces.
Here below are screenshots from my Instagram account on my phone. I decided to use Instagram instead of Youtube for my analysis because many of my other analysis' have used Youtube, i thought it would be beneficial to use different aspects of social media.

Zach was walking his women out of the house in a romantic manner. We know this because she was holding flowers. Zach was most likely to surprise her with something because she was made to cover her eyes.
As the couple walk towards the grassy area, three men come out holding big boards and assemble them in order after making one mistake, this was done to create a comical effect. Then

As the cardboards get turned, its a clear image of a car, this optical illusion made the car seem so real that it looked as if it had been parked on the driveway. This was the girls gift from Zach it seemed. As she gets her blindfold taken off and gets herself into the car.

To make the short video clip very effective and successful, a range of camera angles had been used.  Firstly, as Zach and his lady walked out, he is guiding her to a certain area, the camera moves backwards and they walk forward. This camera movement is catching the movement with all of their body movements and expressions, forward facing the camera makes sure the audience won't miss any details. This movement is using three quarters of their body in shots, similar to a mid shot, this was done because their bottom half was insignificant in the frame and not necessary to use.

However, after Zach hurries his friends with the big boards of cardboard. they are shown running towards the driveway using a wide shot. Wide shots are usually shown to present to the audience the Mise en Scene used. This would have been the driveway. This portrays, to the audience which are familiar with Zachs videos that the optical illusion will be on the driveway. Inaction, the same applies to when the image of the card is an illusion to be real, the lady gets into the car looking surprised by her gift, which we saw was from cardboard.

Moreover, the overall camera quality isn't that fantastic and sometimes it seems poor. The frames are in good quality, although, the camera is often left very shaky. Which obviously means no tripod or special focussing equipment was used throughout.

The illusions are created using editing and softwares to merge similar things together, where the illusion ends by a freeze and carried forward using software and replaced with the real object to make it seem as if the illusion was real.  In this sponsored video, the car pictures on the cardboards get replaced with a near identical real car. With the use of professional editing the video made the illusion look completely real.

The angles in this short clip remain the same throughout, the camera is constantly showing a medium angle staying very central. This makes the audience feel equal to the actress, because comedy isn't something ever to complicated, this is the best angle to use so the audience try to over complicate things.
